General Manager
A general manager must maintain the smooth and efficient inner-workings of a company. This person is accountable for all operations within a company and must plan, oversee, and coordinate all aspects of their specialised area while adhering to company policy. They must also ensure that suppliers and vendors are properly compensated and meet the requirements of the company. This individual normally reports to senior staff members (i.e. the VP or chief operating officer).
A general manager often screens, hires, and trains other managers and supervisors under his/her supervision. This person must provide all final authorisation for their subordinates and provide the appropriate discipline and feedback in order to create a successful work environment. This role also involves ensuing that daily paperwork and payroll tasks are completed in a timely and accurate fashion.
A successful manager should have strong business, mathematics and analytical skills, along with excellent interpersonal, leadership, and conflict-management abilities. The candidate must also demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the business and its products and services.
Employers normally seek candidates with a minimum of five years’ management experience and a BA or MA in a related field of study. The average salary for this job is around C
