Organisers of events for non-profit organisations and charities are required to wear many hats as the job has many facets. Proficient organisers are admired by both contributors and the public for their people talents, self motivation and selfless devotion to worthwhile causes
Successful applicants for positions in the sector are usually required to take on a general idea and then put it into practice. In some cases candidates may be required to come up with their own unique happening. Specific tasks may involve arranging a venue, booking caterers and entertainment, and ensuring that any funds raised are channelled to the correct charity or foundation.
No specific qualifications are needed to secure an events organiser post in the non-profit sector, although graduate qualification in a relevant discipline like media studies will be well received. Candidates need to possess communication skills, have a creative approach to problem solving and an ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
People employed in full-time positions can expect an annual salary somewhere between £15,000 and £24,000. There are also temporary positions where a candidate might work with the organisation of a specific fair, festival or gala. Vacancies tend to be in the bigger UK cities.
