Waste Management

Waste management is an extremely important part of any industry, and requires a high level of commitment. The job broadly involves coming up with systems to collect, dispose of and recycle waste materials. It may also involve waste treatment and cleaning operations.
Those employed in this area of work are expected to implement ways of managing waste disposal while taking into consideration the impact on the environment. They must also work in accordance with government regulations and legislation.
Most organisations will require a waste management officer to come up with innovative ways for reducing waste and introducing strict recycling practices. Qualifications required sometimes include a degree in a relevant field, as well as a number of years of experience for senior level positions. A waste management officer will also need to prove knowledge of a variety of procedures, practices, concepts and regulations.
Good leadership qualities are essential for those in managerial positions as is a degree of creativity and the ability to solve problems. A manager can expect to earn around C
$90,000 per year, while lower-level waste collectors can expect around C
$30,000.
