Jobs in the tourism industry come at all levels; from managerial through to admin, resort-centred and hospitality positions, to sales and other posts in tour offices, as well as entry-level roles, with many involving travel.
This is a popular field, with jobs available across Canada in even small towns in remote locations. Those involved in front-office people-centred positions will need excellent communications and problem-solving skills, plus the ability to work under pressure in a team. Positions are also available in vocational establishments, offering qualifications in tourism-related courses.
Skills, qualifications, previous experience and personal attributes will depend on the position advertised, as will the job content, but an all-round essential attribute is excellent communications skills and the ability to work on varied tasks on a daily basis.
Most work in this sector is varied and interesting, with pressure and problem-solving a constant and travel opportunities part of the package. As regards salaries, these vary depending on the position and its responsibilities, with seasonal work the norm in many tourism jobs. Entry-level applicants should expect salaries from C
