The demanding job of retail manager has one overarching duty, which is to supervise and assess the day-to-day operations of a retail store, including the staff and goods. There are a number of smaller jobs a person in this position is required to perform, which includes the management of stores personnel, inventory, sales figures and store displays.
A retail manager is always in contact with the supervisors or floor managers of different areas within a store or company. Therefore, excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential. An in-depth knowledge of the retail sales and promotions field is also required, in addition to strong leadership qualities.
An advanced degree in business management, sales and marketing, or some other related industry, with a proven record of experience, are what most retail companies require for applicants applying for this position. Those with a high level of experience and education can expect a salary of C
$60,000+ if successful in this position.
