Registered Nurse

A registered nurse (RN) is to be found in a medical care facility such as a hospital, a rehabilitation centre, a nursing home, a clinic, a doctor’s surgery or a private company. Their job is to administer direct care to patients and to promote better health practices.
Among the duties expected of a RN is evaluating the condition of a patient ahead of deciding what treatment might be appropriate, giving that treatment after consultation with a physician, advising patients on issues related to health and helping with some surgical procedures.
Registered nurses can also decide to choose an area in which to specialize such as occupational health, psychiatric care, surgery, community health, emergency care or rehabilitation.
As well as a desire to work with and help people, those looking to enter the profession will need to complete a registered nursing program at a college or university. Permission to practice nursing is then needed from the provincial authority at the place of work and extra training is needed in order to specialize. An average salary is C
$60,000 per year.
