Rail
There are various jobs available in the rail industry including design engineers and rail car loaders. Design engineers are responsible for transport engineering calculations, plans and layouts. They prepare the engineering section of project proposals and estimate the cost of projects.
Design engineers create drawings and sketches to illustrate their designs and may be asked to take on the lead engineer’s role on various projects. Other duties include reviewing field activities and verifying measurements. Educational requirements include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and previous experience.
Rail car loaders’ duties include loading and unloading vehicles and disconnecting product cargo hoses from various vehicles. They are responsible for coordinating loading schedules to the bill of lading. They have to complete loading records and inspect cars. They are required to ensure that safety regulations are followed and that trucks are correctly positioned on loading racks. Duties also include checking the weight of vehicles to make sure that the maximum weight is not exceeded.
The salary for design engineers is in the range of C
$55,000 per year.
