Psychology

A career in psychology involves studying the actions and mental processes of individuals as a way of better understanding their behaviour. Psychologists will spend time trying to understand a person’s emotions and feelings, and how certain attitudes impact on their relationships with others as well as themselves.
Psychology is based heavily on research, and psychologists will often resort to clinical studies, questionnaires and interviews to further their understanding. The data compiled is then used by practitioners to treat a variety of problems including relationship issues, behavioural problems, substance abuse and even poor academic performance.
Those entering the profession often go on to work in a wide variety of settings including universities, businesses, non-profit organizations and hospitals. The areas of discipline are just as varied and include clinical, counselling, research and developmental psychology.
The ability to show competency in research, practical abilities and a theoretical mind is often essential. Depending on where they work, psychologists can expect to earn an average of around C
$76,000 per year.
