Many new graduates are finding that graduate training schemes are offering an excellent way to secure employment with some of Canada’s biggest firms. These companies employ young people with the future in mind, as many of those who complete these new graduate schemes are promoted into management very early on.
New graduates will learn that most of these schemes are in professional, office-based fields, particularly in finance and consultancy. They offer young people a great opportunity to experience work in a number of departments, giving them a good idea about which part of their field they might like to specialise in.
On-the-job training is the major part of many new graduate schemes, but some time is normally spent in more formal classroom environments, either on or off the premises. Some jobs even offer the opportunity to gain a professional qualification.
There is a lot of competition for places on these schemes, which comes as no surprise since salaries average out at more than C
$30,000. These salaries are even more attractive since employees are given few real responsibilities during their first year of work.
