Medical Receptionist
As the first point of contact between a patient and a doctor, a medical receptionist performs an important non-clinical role in healthcare. As well as dealing with appointments, the job requires somebody with impeccable organizational skills. Additional tasks include keeping patients’ medical records up to date and generally keeping the doctor’s office in order.
A high school diploma is all that is required to enter the workplace, but proof of computer competency and office experience is preferable. Any specialized training is usually given on the job. As a medical receptionist is often required to deal with a large number of people, confidence, a positive attitude and the ability to multi-task are all qualities suited to this type of work. Good interpersonal skills are essential as the job holder is often required to answer patients’ questions on a non-medical level.
The prospects of moving into related fields such as office management, nursing or medical assistance are good for those who undertake additional training. The average salary is C
