At a minimum, a cleaner will be expected to deliver a basic level of ability in sweeping, mopping and washing floors. Collecting refuse and debris and depositing in appropriate containers is often required. Emptying refuse containers and using appropriate handling methods for various containers, cleaning materials and equipment may also be involved.
Some areas of work may require experience and skill in the operation of specialized equipment, such as industrial vacuum and cleaning equipment, carpet cleaning machines, power sweepers, pressure cleaners, polishing machines, steam cleaners, waxing machines and power tools. The ability to work effectively without supervision or to work as part of a team is a basic requirement of most positions.
The ability to read key documents and plan tasks is often also required. Cleaner postings range from casual roles, with flexible shifts that may provide a few hours or work per week, to full-time positions with plenty of scope for overtime.
