Fundraising

Fundraising provides the life blood for charities in the UK. People seeking donations on behalf of organisations such as the Red Cross, Oxfam and the British Heart Foundation are admired for the selfless way they have devoted themselves to worthy causes.
While most charities rely on volunteers to work in their high street sales outlets or raise funds on the streets, there are a lot of full-time salaried positions and part-time paid jobs. Fundraising individuals are expected to be able to persuade members of the public to give generously to deserving charities. Managers in the field might be expected to arrange corporate sponsorship or events.
Applicants for jobs do not require any particular qualifications, but are required to be self-motivated, articulate and able to deal with the general public. A manager running a charity’s donations operation needs to be educated to at least A Level standard with preferably a BA or BSc as well as membership of the IoF.
Candidates securing roles as part of an organisation’s donations team will get starting salaries of about £14,500 a year, or hourly rates from £8.50 up to £11.00 for part-time work. A manager in this field will be offered an annual salary somewhere between £20,000 and £30,000.
