Ecology

The main role of someone working in ecology is to study how living things relate to each other and their environment. Some jobs in this field focus on very specific areas like migration patterns of certain animals, while others have broader focuses, such as the pollution of the atmosphere or ocean life.
Common job holders within this field are marine ecologists, who work with aquatic life, forest ecologists, who work with plants and the animals, and restoration ecologists, who attempt to repair areas with significant environmental damage.
A strong science background is important when pursuing an ecology career, but strong knowledge of statistics as well as business and office management are equally important. A science-related university degree, however, is necessary for most work in this field, while further education a Masters and doctorate level may be required to advance into more senior positions.
Average ecology salaries are between slightly more than C
$17,000 and C
$60,300, while the most senior-level jobs pay more than C
$179,000.
