Someone working as a professional driver is important throughout the world of business as well as in the public sector. Safety must be the number-one concern for someone in this role.
There are dozens of different positions in this field for those that are able to work effectively and in a timely manner with minimal supervision, from delivery persons and bus operators to instructors, couriers and armored car specialists. Qualifications for each role differ; a CDL, or HazMat certificate may be necessary. However, many posts have no educational requirements and provide on-the-job training. The use of a private vehicle is required in some roles.
Salaries vary hugely between the many different driver positions. In Canada, truckers typically see an average per annum figure of about
$30,000 to
$50,000; those operating public vehicles such as school and city buses usually see figures ranging from
$15,000 to as much as
$60,000 per annum, whilst delivery professionals can earn anywhere from
$15,000 to about
$45,000 per annum.
