Construction Manager

A construction manager leads projects and ensures that the work is completed efficiently and on time. They are involved with construction projects from beginning to end and duties include scheduling, coordinating and hiring staff. An essential part of this position is working within a budget and ensuring that the project adheres to cost restrictions.
A construction manager can be self-employed or they can seek employment with a large company. They may be responsible for a whole project or work as part of a team to manage certain aspects of a project. This position can also be labelled as project manager or project engineer.
Applicants need to have managerial skills in order to lead a team. Communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the job holder needs to be able to liaise with engineers, architects and clients. Candidates should be able to perform cost estimations, select materials and review labour requirements. The majority of the time they will work on site and activities change according to day-to-day needs at the building site.
Construction managers can expect to earn between C
$130,000 and C
$135,000 per year.
