A system or internet analyst is an integral part of any company’s IT operation. The incumbent is involved with the development and overseeing of bespoke computer systems for the particular business that the company is involved in. The efficiency and smooth running of IT departments largely depends on the job holder’s foresight and implementation skills.
Successful applicants for the role in Canada are required to wear two hats as most companies need the analyst to provide a link between the end user’s requirement and the technical expertise of a programmer to provide the finished product. Analysts need to be able to see the big picture all the way through from the pilot stage to completion.
The person experienced in this work is expected to be well versed in applications and software such as Microsoft Visual C
, Java, HTML and SQL Server as well as Microsoft spreadsheets and Word. Projects that the job holder may be asked to work on range from the restructuring of a financial institution’s real-time system to setting up a new phone and internet network for a call centre.
Dependant on qualifications, relevant experience and length of time in the IT business, a salary of up to C
$90,000 per annum is offered, although somewhere between C
$50,000 and C
$70,000 is the norm. Employment opportunities tend to be in the main cities such as Montreal and Quebec or provincial capitals including Edmonton.
