General Management

In every corner of business there is a need for decision makers and skilled individuals to make sure everything is running according to plan, and the world of finance is no exception. Those working in general management in finance oversee some of the most essential aspects of day-to-day operations including budgeting, taxes, investing, planning, sales, bookkeeping and reporting.
There are numerous positions in the upper levels of any business’s finance department as well as in many sorts of private sector organizations. Specific positions may involve overseeing financial planning, accounting, budgeting, reporting, payroll, advertizing or nearly any function within the department.
Those working in general management in financial departments in Canada are generally required to possess a university degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field. However exact requirements depend on the specific post. An MBA can be a big advantage and some positions require special certifications such as a CFA.
Pay ranges also vary greatly between posts. However, management positions fetch a minimum of about C
$35,000 annually and executive-level posts can see salaries in the range of C
$200,000.
