Youth

Working with Canadian youth can be one of the most satisfying jobs in the country’s social care sector. While many of these jobs concentrate on supervising young people in different environments, others focus on case-working and assessing the development needs of individuals and groups of young people.
Some sections of Canadian society have been greatly affected by a number of social problems, such as excessive gambling, alcohol abuse and behavioural difficulties. Young people are no exception, meaning that many jobs in this field deal with the personal and social adjustment of people in this group.
Positions in frontline youth care include those working in care homes, catering to disadvantaged youths. In addition to organising activities, staff will also need to be capable of conflict resolution, as well as be able to implement behaviour programmes that have been designed for the residents.
Average salaries in this field range from C
$25,600 to C
$40,800, depending on the region. The best-paid jobs are located in Ontario cities such as Windsor and Sarnia, while some of the lowest paid positions are offered by organisations in parts of New Brunswick.
