Truck Driving

Those working in the profession of truck driving are expected to have a high degree of work stamina whilst adhering to all-important safety standards. This line of work not only involves operating heavy vehicles safely and efficiently, but also commonly requires drivers to aid with associated tasks including safety inspections, basic maintenance, loading and unloading vehicles and preparing and verifying paperwork.
Most positions in this field require jobholders to hold a CDL certificate (commercial driver’s license), with the exception of local delivery posts in which smaller vehicles are used. A clean driving background, documented experience and hazardous material transport certification are also common prerequisites.
Salaries for truck driving professionals in Canada are heavily correlated to years of experience but, particularly for small enterprises, may also be influenced by a number of factors including fuel and material costs, the type of equipment used and market conditions. Figures typically range anywhere from
$25,000 to
$70,000 per annum, though the average driver’s salary has hovered around
$40,000 per annum in recent years.
