When working in this area of sales, a strong knowledge of scientific and technical products is required. Sales personnel specialise in both scientific and technologically advanced services and products. The role can also require demonstrating how the particular product works in order to sell it.
Working environment can vary depending on industry or product specialisation. A lot of the technical sales roles exist within companies which design and build products which are scientific and technologically advanced, such as manufacturing and wholesale firms. Travel may also be required in the role in order to educate potential clients and demonstrate products.
The main responsibilities include persuading clients to buy products, negotiating prices and closing a sale. Collaborating with engineers, scientists and inventors in order to customise products for customers and clients is also a main duty. It is also crucial to know a product’s availability, benefits, use and pricing structures.
To work in technical sales, a degree in a related field, such as engineering, is sometimes expected, but certainly an asset. Employers often may prefer previous training or experience. A specialist in the field should expect a salary in excess of C
