Teaching

Teaching is a respected profession. The candidate for a job in this field must be a certified teacher to work in an elementary school, a middle school, or a high school. To obtain certification requires a bachelor’s degree and a two-year bachelor of education conversion course. Each province administers certification for teaching.
Secondary education requires the teacher to specialize in a particular subject like mathematics or social studies. To do this, the job candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with a certain amount of credits in the subject they wish to teach, as set by the province. All teachers must undergo criminal record checks.
Duties include preparing lessons and making them interesting and interactive. The position holder must communicate the subject matter with clarity, and assist the student where required. They must monitor the progress of the student by setting tests and homework, while keeping records. They should look out for any learning difficulties or behavioral problems the students might have.
The work requires a caring and energetic personality. The salary for teaching begins at C
$40,000 and can rise to C
$70,000.
