Senior Accountant
The position of senior accountant is a core job in a company, whatever the size and importance, as it involves applying the principles of accountancy to analyze critical financial information and to submit it as timely reports to the firm’s financial managers.
Equally important is ensuring accountancy control measures are being correctly implemented. The senior in the accounting team is responsible for accurate monthly, quarterly and year-end reports, is expected to identify and resolve irregularities and discrepancies, and to provide support for budgets and forecasts and to monitor tax issues as well as to coordinate auditing and other procedures.
High-level planning, organizing and communications skills are mandatory, as is attention to detail and accuracy, and problem-solving. Supervisory skills are important, and a high level of tolerance to stress is a must in this job as pressures are considerable, especially at year-end. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge in accounting and auditing principles and practice, to understand all applicable laws, to be fully computer-literate and to have experience in all aspects of accountancy as well as a relevant degree.
Salaries for a senior accountant position, including bonuses and profit shares, vary between C
$44,000 and C
$76,000, and these positions occur across all company sectors.
