The sales director will manage the sales programs and activities of an organisation. This sales field falls under the broader category of advertising, marketing, promotions and sales professionals.
A sales director will work in sales management and has the responsibility of attaining sales targets, establishing strategic business relations, building up distribution channels, and providing ideas for strategic sales plans. The individual will also be responsible for controlling the selling costs with the goal of reaching predetermined net profit yields.
Duties include devising and deploying sales objectives and goals throughout the company, including budgets preparation and sales targets, developing and implementing sales programs, policies and plans for the sales managers, and managing the activities and performance of the sales units, including regional managers, account managers and staff.
A sales director requires the ability to effectively interact with senior executives, to be able to manage a cross-functional team, and to be able to develop sales strategies, techniques and tactics.
