Quantity Surveyor

A quantity surveyor is responsible for reviewing the quantity of materials used on construction sites with the goal of minimizing costs. The number of workers and their productivity on the site is also reviewed. This ensures that the construction project stays within its budget.
Duties include buying material and hiring staff. The job holder needs to have extensive knowledge of how many employees are needed to complete the job within the specified time. They should also have up-to-date information on the cost of materials. They are responsible for inspecting land to decide if the company should buy the land.
A quantity surveyor is required to draw up cost plans, strategies and to sustain costing. They negotiate with customers in order to secure cost-effective deals. Successful applicants work in offices and on constructions sites.
Usual working times are 40 hours a week but overtime may be required to meet deadlines. Applicants need a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying and they must be capable of understanding construction plans. They must have communication skills in order to liaise with clients and construction staffs. Candidates should have the knowledge to operate cost estimation software. Salaries for this job position are in the range of C
$48,000.
