Personal Trainer
A certified personal trainer will be educated in proper muscle and anatomy movement during exercise. However, in the role itself, the job description not only dictates showing people how to exercise, but also to serve as a nutritionist and coach, and to have the skills to apply minor medical care.
The individual in the role is required to create exercise routines to fit clients’ needs. They will work with individual clients during their exercise routines, ensuring that they are breathing correctly and moving in a way which will not injure them. Monitoring clients’ progress and delivering evaluation is also important.
A key responsibility is planning. Clients’ routines may depend on whether they want to gain muscle or lose weight. In addition, meal plans need to be constructed or lists of foods which will give clients optimum nutrition and energy. A first aid certificate must be obtained.
A personal trainer in Canada with less than four years of experience can expect to earn between C
$25,000 and C
$40,000, whereas one with over 10 years’ experience can earn up to C
$57,000.
