The general responsibilities of the maintenance mechanic are to assess, repair and diagnose mechanical equipment such as engines and parts. The role varies massively depending on the company and industry, but many roles are now assisted by computers, especially in the area of diagnostics.
A crucial duty for a maintenance mechanic is often to diagnose and troubleshoot, before repairing a problem. Performing maintenance and safety checks is also an important task.
As with all positions within the mechanics industry, it is vital that the prospective candidate is physically fit and healthy, as some heavy machinery may have to be lifted from time to time. Additionally, good attention to detail along with have an analytical mind is essential.
