A junior analyst is an entry level position in banking and finance. Persons in the role are responsible for generating weekly newsletters, writing proposals and pitch letters, and putting together prospectuses. Further to this, the junior analyst undertakes research on market developments and trends, organizes presentations, answers phone calls and manages trends.
An analyst plays an essential role in any banking team, supporting team leaders, associates and vice presidents by arranging meetings, creating financial models and analyzing financial statements. For this job, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in the financial and business field. Although applicants may gain training through college internships, training is generally provided for entry-level analysts.
Employers require banking analysts to have exceptional quantitative, interpersonal, communication and writing skills. Candidates should be able to prioritize tasks when working on multiple projects and should be good team players. The position requires excellent computer skills, and the candidate should be competent with VBA macros and complex Excel spreadsheets. The role requires the applicant to be knowledgeable about relevant media feeds and news publications such as the Financial Times, Bloomberg, and the Wall Street Journal.
