Working in this area of sales requires the ability and knowledge to introduce or sell new services or products to established clients. Customers liaise with representatives to request quotations, orders, and lead times by email, telephone or fax. Most working in inside sales write orders, build quotations on products and transmit relative information to customers.
Responsibilities of this line of work include meeting or exceeding targets, and participating in meetings, training sessions and professional development classes. It is also necessary to cooperate with the sales supervisor and accounts manager to determine a strategic approach for sales.
To be suitable for a position within the sales arena, the ability to work in a self-directed, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment is expected. Written and verbal communication skills, highly proficient computer skills, excellent time management skills and prominent presentation and organisation skills are also required.
A marketing or business diploma is a strong benefit, but previous related experience can also be sufficient for working in this area of sales. In Canada, working as an inside sales representative generally offers a salary of between C
$30,000 and C
$60,000; however, a managerial role is unlikely to have a starting salary of below
$50,000.
