The Hvac industry is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining heating, refrigeration systems and air conditioning. In a growing industry, there are many key roles in relation to employment such a management, instructional, maintenance technician and sales representatives.
Technicians in the role may specialize in maintenance and repair or installation; however, they are trained for both. They may also have in depth knowledge on heating, refrigeration work or air conditioning. It is preferred for technicians to have completed formal training, which could include classroom instruction or an apprenticeship; in some places, a license is required.
Some technicians may advance to supervisory roles, while others may decide to take marketing and sales jobs. There are also technicians who become cost estimators, building superintendents, as well as system, test and balance specialists. The job outlook for technicians in the industry is excellent, with growth set to be faster than other occupations which require an associate degree or post-high school training.
The average salary for an Hvac technician in Canada is C
$41,000. An apprentice may earn up to C
$35,000, although this may vary due to company, industry, location and experience.
