Hospital

Healthcare is one of the country’s largest industries and as such, hospitals offer an extremely diverse range of job opportunities. They employ staff with all levels of training and education. Making up the largest proportion of hospital workers are nurses. Other clinical positions include doctors, surgeons, physicians, social workers and therapists.
The running of a hospital involves a variety of back office jobs for administrative staff, managers, IT workers, accountants and human resources. There is also a need for non-clinical workers such as receptionists, electricians, gardeners and cleaners. Because hospitals often employ hundreds of staff and function primarily to look after patients, it is important that workers have good interpersonal skills.
The healthcare industry continues to grow, meaning that working in a hospital often offers a high level of job security. Another advantage of this type of work is that the sheer number of hospitals in Canada means employees will often not have to contend with long commutes. Registered nurses will earn around C
$60,000 per year.
