Gis Technician

A Geographic Information Systems (Gis) technician requires candidates to have experience and strong Gis skills in more than one system. Exceptional C++/C and/or Visual Basic programming skills are also needed. A good understanding of statistical and mathematical analysis, excellent written and verbal skills, and extensive experience in Oracle or related RDBMS are required.
A willingness to learn and progress further is preferred as well as a keenness to fine tuning existing skills is essential. Either long experience as a qualified Gis technician or a holder of a formal qualification, such as a degree or diploma in Gis, planning technology or cartography, is preferred.
The Gis technician is required to have excellent IT, people and problem-solving skills and to be committed to ongoing education and training schemes. At least one year’s experience in ArcView, ArcInfo, and Arc/HIS systems is needed. The job holder will have good interpretation skills and project planning and management qualities, as well as be familiar with database software, CAD and other related programs.
Overtime beyond the regular 35-hour week is compensated and on-call duties can help technicians earn more than the average guideline of between C
$38,819 and C
$49,875.
