Geologist

A geologist must be meticulous and methodical in their study of rock formations and the entire surface of the earth; they are often employed to search for natural resources and possible climate change solutions. Predicting natural disasters is another important aspect of this profession ,where workers can further specialise in palaeontology, oceanography, seismology, or mineralogy.
Most geology positions are within government agencies or non-profit organisations, while the petroleum and natural gas industries are the main geology employers in the private sector.
Areas of geology include: earth materials, which involves natural resources such as metals, water, and oil; earth history, which focuses on how the planet's climate has changed throughout its lifetime; or earth processes, such as landslides, floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
University degrees in geology are necessary for most jobs in the field, but Masters degrees are required for high school teaching positions, and doctorates are required to teach geology at the university level. Average salaries range frm between just over C
$41,000 to well over C
$100,000, but senior geologists can earn more than C
$165,500.
