The games industry sees billions of dollars running through it every year, making effective advertising vital if a company's console, computer, handheld, and arcade products are to be successful. On the other hand, advertising space is also a valuable commodity for companies interested in getting their products in full view of the general public. Some of the roles that can be assumed in the industry include that of proof reader, designer, and product manager, with plenty of vacancies in advertising sales.
The making of any game, from its initial concept to the finished product, might take two or three years. There are many stages involved, including creating and designing how a game looks and how it is played, which is where designers, whose work is overseen by a product manager, come in. A games company having advertising space pitched to them by a person in advertising sales, or a group of investors, must be convinced that their investment is worthwhile and will pay off once the project has been completed. Additionally, interest in the product must be kept by potential buyers, known as gamers.
So that deals can be closed, strong communication skills are required as well as a persuasive personality. It helps to have a confident and outgoing manner to maintain strong relationships with clients over time.
The average median salary in Canada for a job in this sector is around C
$30,000. In Toronto, those with experience can find themselves in roles that command C
$50,000 per annum.
