Financial Advisor

The role of a financial advisor stems from the past duties of brokers, stockbrokers and the like. However, rather than simply acting as a transaction facilitator, he or she now actually provides well-researched and informed advice to clients and/or his or her employing organization.
Key job responsibilities in this position include evaluating the performance of companies, organizations or industries in an effort to determine the proper path for the making of valuable investments. Day-to-day tasks often include creating statistical charts and diagrams, examining conditions in the financial market, making presentations regarding investments and the analysis of economic and social data.
In Canada there are no set requirements to become a financial advisor; however, it is nonetheless necessary to gain certification from the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC). Additionally, any employer is going to expect at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in economics, finance or accounting. An MBA can provide an additional advantage. Remuneration for this position is largely performance-based; however, data shows that typical yearly earnings range between C
$30,000 and C
$75,000.
