Field Technician
A field technician makes house calls, travelling right to the source of a technical problem and fixing the issue on site. They typically work in the IT and computer fields as representatives of individual companies, though there are also independent consulting firms that provide technical assistance.
Time management and customer service skills are essential because most field technicians have to travel to several locations within one day. They must be able to deal directly with customers and have the technical expertise to repair or solve problems quickly on site.
Most field technicians are hired with a high school diploma or vocational school training. They must then be specially trained to install and repair the specific equipment they will work with. A natural aptitude for mechanical things is an important skill to possess.
This is a busy field with excellent stability and growth potential. A technician can earn around C
$16 per hour to start with, with regular raises as they increase their experience and knowledge.
