The role of an electrician is to maintain the electrical service for a building, hospital, factory or any other type of building. The candidate is required to diagnose problems, design strategies to fix problems and repair equipment, in line with codes, procedures and industry standards.
The candidate should have a 309A certified electrician qualification and be willing to further their vocation. In many cases, the role requires out-of-town contracts therefore travelling is normally involved. The candidate should be able to carry out preventative maintenance on electrical systems, conduct system tests, study diagrams and schematics, as well as ensure their working environment is safe.
Qualities which are required include; customer service, attention to detail, technical understanding, supply management, equipment maintenance, problem solving, thoroughness, quality focus and electronics troubleshooting. The average annual salary for an electrician in Canada is C
$47,908 although depending on the employer, there could be bonuses, overtime and on-call payments.
