The data management specialist is a growing position in IT. Creating and maintaining data or data files is the main responsibility of the job holder. In most cases, the data management specialist needs to be familiar with specific database management software, such as SAP. Therefore, it is important to have experience with specific database software.
Daily interaction with programmers, end-users of data and data processing technicians is usual. The ability to work in a team environment is also an important quality. A data management specialist normally will work within a data processing or an information management department.
This position requires an eye for detail, consistency and accuracy. The job holder will be required to collect, maintain and in some cases analyze and report on collected data. Depending on the level of experience, there may be opportunities to liaise with end-users and customers.
The starting salary for this role in Canada is around C
$35,000. Remuneration is commensurate with experience and specialists with seven to nine years of experience can earn upwards of C
$78,000.
