A compliance officer within the banking sector is responsible for ensuring that the daily operations of the financial organization that they work for follow the appropriate procedures. The job holder ensures that an effective compliance management program is in place and takes responsibility for the planning and controlling of the daily lending operations of the bank.
Typically, a compliance officer plays a key role in leading committees and examinations and works closely with senior management within the banking institution. They will ensure that all new staff members are trained in areas such as customer service and the operation of computer hardware and software. They will be expected to provide management with reports and to offer guidance on sometimes complex issues regarding banking compliance.
A bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline is a requirement for this position, and applicants with a major in accounting, finance, or economics are usually given priority.
