Commercial lawyers concentrating on transactional work will be required to advise their clients on legal matters and will often be in charge of negotiating, drafting and executing contracts. They are also experts on a firm’s legal obligations
Lawyers specialising in litigation are likely to spend much of their time representing individuals or companies in the courts either defending their clients or suing other companies or individuals on behalf of their clients
In the world of commercial insurance it is usually the broker who looks after an individual’s or a company’s insurance needs. They will have an in depth knowledge of the market and will use this to find the most appropriate insurance deal available. Brokers are often independent, meaning that they can shop around to locate the best supplier. The size of the company the broker is working for will determine the range of responsibilities. Commercial lawyers can earn in excess of £100,000 per year. A broker can expect to start on around £25,000 per year.
