Automotive Technician

As well as a passion for cars, an automotive technician must have excellent communication skills, as they are responsible for explaining clearly to a customer what exactly is wrong with a vehicle. Most people entering the profession do so from a young age. This is often through apprenticeships or training at a certified garage.
However, there are courses at automotive technician training schools which offer degrees. Progression in the job is through further training and experience. A drivers license is also a requirement for this line of work.
Technicians need to be analytical and organised. Technical skills are a must, as well as a knowledge of which tools are needed for what job. The work can often be physical so stamina and fitness are useful, as are good problem solving skills.
Automotive technicians will be expected to work efficiently on their own, as well as in a team. Some training with computers and electronics may be useful, as automotive technology is constantly advancing. Salaries depend on experience, but a technician can expect around C
$40,000 if in full-time employment.
