Assessor

An assessor is a government employee who is responsible for the valuation of real estate. The job holder will typically value whole neighborhoods using nationally-recognized procedures. They must hold the AACI, P.App and CRA qualifications, which are usually attained after completing a bachelor’s degree.
The job requires the assessor to travel to property developments to determine their value, which will then be recognized by the Canadian legal system. They are also responsible for verifying property valuation, and informing owners of the value of their real estate.
The job holder must follow strict procedures and be able to justify their valuations. Therefore the job requires excellent communication and written skills. The person in this role must be a motivated individual who is able to clearly follow instructions.
The amount of jobs available in this profession has significantly lowered in recent years due to the depressed property market. Established assessors are still able to make between C
$40,000 and C
$75,000 per year, and receive additional government-employee benefits.
