Accounting Clerk
The job of accounting clerk is often regarded as an entry-level position and, dependent on the needs of the employer, can encompass various tasks from front-desk client services to back office calculations. The regular daily schedule will certainly include working with databases and bank accounts, as well as posting daily receipts and tallying deposits. Accounts receivable and payable duties and basic payroll tasks may also be involved.
An applicant for the position of accounting clerk must be good with figures and be detail-oriented, and have good computer and communications skills. Familiarity with basic accounting software is an advantage although most companies will undertake training of new employees. This job, also titled accounting assistant, is often seen as the first step in an accountancy career, involving study for professional qualifications either in or out of working hours.
Salaries will depend on age, experience and the range of tasks covered, beginning at approximately C
$25,000 and rising to around C
$44,000 for long-term employees. Companies with a positive attitude may be prepared to help with the costs of obtaining formal accountancy qualifications, which can lead to an increase in the basic salary.
