Welding

The welding industry covers a wide variety of jobs which are in high demand, including construction, manufacturing and industrial. Requirements for the job holder start with basic skills training that can be acquired in a technical school or on the job. Welders can then work up through an apprenticeship should they choose to become journeymen in the trade.
Welding job holders join metal parts together by heating them to fuse the metal together permanently. Spot welding is the most basic form of welding. Fitter welding is an example of a skilled position. In the role, the welder is required to assemble, repair and fabricate various types of piping systems such as utilities, industrial and heating and cooling.
Construction welding joins beams in buildings, bridges and other structures, and is regularly required to be performed on a scaffold at a great height. It is also necessary to have the skills to operate equipment such as industrial saws and plate shears.
The average salary of a fitter welder is C
$36,944; however, at journeyman level, the salary is upwards of C
$57,000. An apprentice can also earn in the region of C
$30,000.
