Trades

Construction trades cover a vast spectrum of individual, specialized jobs within the greater construction industry. Most trade workers are self-employed, while others work for union organizations or within a construction company. Due to the specialized nature of this kind of work, extensive training and apprenticeship is required.
The building industry is kept afloat by the many individuals who focus on one particular aspect of construction. Typical trades include plumber, electrician, carpenter, roofer, boilermaker, HVAC technician. Most provinces require certification in order to officially work, something that can be achieved by taking courses and passing examinations.
Often, self-employed workers are hired by individual property owners or general contractors. The pay is typically by the hour as salary positions are quite rare in this industry. Carpenters, for example, can expect to earn around C
$20 her hour, while plumbers and electricians usually get paid 10 percent more due to the extra training and certification needed.
