Technician

A mechanical technician is a prized employee in manufacturing plants throughout Canada. An individual’s skill in drafting and reading blueprints, fabricating parts and systems and resolving technical problems is an invaluable asset.
The exact nature of a technician’s role varies with different companies, but includes drawing up plans to user specifications, fabricating or ordering parts, installation of parts or whole systems, running test operations and coordinating with facility designers and users. Some posts may involve evaluating and recommending production improvements.
Candidates will ideally hold a diploma or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering as well as have a background in the field. Incumbents need to have an understanding of production processing and good communication skills, be able to work unsupervised and be familiar with Solid Edge, Solidworks or AutoCAD software.
There are positions vacant in most Canadian cities, which include Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. Most technician positions require individuals to do some evening or weekend work. Depending on experience and location, salaries range from a minimum of C
$25,000 up to C
$60,000 for senior staff.
