Technical Support

A technical support officer plays a crucial role in the IT industry. This person monitors and maintains the computer networks and systems of an organization.
Further responsibilities include: installing/configuring computer systems, diagnosing software/hardware errors, solving technical problems, and helping clients through a series of troubleshooting, either in person or over the phone.
Also known as computer technicians, applications support specialists, help desk operators, and maintenance engineers, these professionals are required to have an understanding about how information systems function inside and out. Other than possessing technical skills, technical support officers should be good at managing and prioritizing several open cases at once, following detailed diagrams with written instructions, working on a task until completion, and quickly establishing a good rapport with other professionals and customers.
This position does not require many qualifications and it is not among the highest paid IT jobs. The typical starting salary is between C
$30,000 and C
$43,000 per year. However, with 10 to 15 years’ experience, the job holder can progress to making up to C
$94,000 per annum.
