Team Leader

A team leader is responsible for getting the best possible performance out of a group of individuals within a company, and therefore must be motivated and command respect. The role requires a person with exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to delegate efficiently and make sure that everyone is working to schedule. Depending on the size and type or organisation, a team leader may also be required to develop and train members of the team, handle financial processes and keep track of individual performances.
Other skills required include excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritise the team’s workload and keep that team motivated. Entry requirements generally involve a high level of experience within a particular organisation and proof of management ability. A high level of education is normally attractive to employers, such as a business management degree, but experience is the most important qualification.
Proficiency in IT and computers is also often a requirement. A team leader’s salary will be dependent on the company, the project being undertaken and levels of experience. Salaries average between C
$35,000 and C
$75,000 per year.
