Store Manager
A store manager’s main job is to ensure that the company or store is turning as much profit as possible. To do this, a worker in this position must ensure that staff and merchandise processes are generating customers. Most candidates will not have to actually work with products, as most of this is done by field managers, whom report directly to the store manager.
Being able to conduct and organize meetings, communicating and listening to employees, designing company/store policies, delivering training exercises, electronically inputting sales reports and displaying effective leadership qualities are many of the important skills a person applying for this position should possess.
Because this position is a managerial role, starting salaries are usually in excess of C
$50,000. In some of the larger stores in most major Canadian cities, a store manager will receive no less than C
$60,000. Advanced degrees in retail management, business management, marketing and sales, or another related field is required, along with several years experience, are, of course, a clear advantage.
