In this role, it is essential to have excellent knowledge of the products or services which the employer offers, as well as confidence in the ability to sell them. In the position, the worker must promote and sell services or products to customers and clients. Top quality performers will build lasting relationships and maintain contacts based on integrity and trust.
There are two main kinds of sales consultants: employed and independent. Those who are employed work through a company, receiving either a salary, commission, or both. If independent, the consultants are self-employed and promote self-created services or products, or the services or products of a larger organisation. They will work their own hours, as well as decide on the amount of income they aim to generate.
The position may involve meeting sales targets, maintaining customer relationships following the sale, marketing products and services, managing a sales territory, creating a customer base, keeping records of interactions with customers, and keeping up-to-date on product knowledge.
To be suitable for the role, it is important to be energetic, outgoing, confident, knowledgeable and organised. Sales consultant salaries can vary greatly, especially as they are often related to commission and bonuses. The lowest salary is generally no less than C
$25,000, whereas the most skilled in the position can earn in excess of C
$100,000.
