A wide variety of roles is available in this industry, though they all require a basic dedication to the art and business of retailing and sales. Most positions involve the management or supervision of one or more retail outlets. Candidates will need demonstrable experience in a retail environment. Invariably, roles will require the ability to put customers’ first, while maintaining the interests of the business.
Strong communication skills, the ability to monitor and mentor store staff, good team-working skills, numeracy and organizational ability will all be called upon when filling these roles. Depending on the products or industry involved, candidates may be required to demonstrate a significant level of product and industry knowledge, as well as experience.
Work can involve co-ordinating sales staff and cashiers, hiring and assigning sales workers, handling payment and product return authorisations, coaching or handling sales, monitoring and maintaining stock levels, preparing reports, resolving customer complaints and dealing with shortages.
Remuneration can frequently involve target-based bonuses, commission or other performance-related incentives. Salaries vary between C
